Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Swamp Bats offense went cold on Thursday night, only scratching off six hits and one run in a 2-1 defeat to the visiting Ocean State Waves.
The Waves, who demolished the Swamp Bats at Ocean State on the opening night of the season 14-1, got another strong pitching performance from their starter. John Murray pitched four innings, giving up one unearned on just four hits and three walks. Tyler Bowditch then came on and tossed five scoreless innings, striking out five Swamp Bats along the way, to finish off the job the Waves.
Keene's starter Nick Neumann took the loss, but pitched better compared to his previous two outings. Coming into the game with a 14.53 ERA and not making it past the second inning in his previous starts, the junior out of Central Connecticut State went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, only one earned, with five strikeouts.
The Swamp Bats only run came in the second inning off of an error from the Wave's second baseman Reed Gamache.
The loss drops the Swamp Bat's record to 2-7, pushing them five games back already from the first place Vermont Mountaineers. Keene will hit the road for their next contest, as they take on the Danbury Westerners. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday night in Connecticut.
