Keene Swamp Bats News Release

With tonight's loss the Swamp Bats clinch last place in the Northern Division, after falling to the North Adams SteepleCats by a score of 6-4

There was a large offensive output early in Friday nights game at Alumni Field in Keene, as the teams would be tied 3-3 at the end of the first inning.

The SteepleCats scored three in the top of the first inning and were able to chase Keene starting pitcher Tommy Doyle from the game after recording only one out and allowing two hits, two walks and one earned run and gave way to Brian Stepniak.

Keene responded in the bottom of the inning on a three run homerun by Connor Foreman, his second of the season, to tie it up 3-3.

In the third inning both teams would match run for run after a solo homerun by North Adams' Joe DeLuca and an RBI single by Keene's Foreman knotted it up at 4-4.

The Swamp Bats were able to get to the SteepleCats starting pitcher Matt Kostalos for the four runs, on seven hits; but Kostalos pitched through eight innings, while striking out nine Keene batters.

The SteepleCats took the lead in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout to the shortstop by Conrad Ziemendorf to give North Adams a 5-4 lead.

North Adams added another run on an RBI single by Jim Haley in the top of the eighth to give them a 6-4 lead, and they were able to hang on from there.
