Surging Dirt Dawgs Break Sharks' 11 Game Win Streak

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Sunday, July 7, 2013) It seems that the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are finally starting to click on all cylinders.
The surging Dirt Dawgs (8-13), now winners of three straight games, defeated the first place Martha's Vineyard Sharks 13-2 thanks to an all-around team effort.
Coming into the game the Sharks (17-8) have won 11 straight games, and Wachusett knew it would need a great performance from starting pitcher Thomas Fitzpatrick (Curry).
Fitzpatrick delivered just that, pitching an excellent eight innings, allowing only 2 runs on four hits while striking out four. He earned the win on the night, moving to 1-1.
The Dirt Dawgs' offense also showed up tonight, exploding for 17 hits.
Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston), the anchor of the Wachusett offense, went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. With the huge game, Moquete boosts his team leading RBI total to 18.
Wachusett right fielder Austin Mock (IUP), who usually pitches for the Dirt Dawgs, showed that he is capable of also playing the field by going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
His highlight came in the seventh, as he led off the frame with a solo shot to left.
Centerfielder Derek Lowe (William & Mary) continued his strong season from the plate with three hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Austin Sistrunk (Lipscomb) also added two hits for the Dirt Dawgs.
After a day off tomorrow, the Dirt Dawgs travel to Holman Stadium on Tuesday to take on the two-time defending champions, the Nashua Silver Knights. First pitch is at 11:05 AM.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
