
Surge Win in Walk-Off Fashion

Wichita Wind Surge News Release
Wichita, KS- Spencer Steer delivered an eleventh inning pinch hit walk off home run giving the Wichita Wind Surge a 7-6 win over the Springfield Cardinals.
Wichita struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning as Andrew Bechtold singled that scored Austin Martin and Michael Helman followed by grounding out, allowing Alex Isola to advance home to take a 2-0 lead.
Louie Varland took the hill for the Surge and pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, and tallied eight strikeouts. Jordan Walker hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2.
Matt Wallner hit a two-run RBI single that scored Chris Williams and Kennie Taylor to give the Surge a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning. Wallner finished the night going two for three with a walk and two RBIs.
Springfield scored two runs in the top of the ninth as Alex Scherff hit one batter and walked another with the bases loaded to tie the game 4-4. Ben Gross took the mound for the Surge in the eleventh inning and allowed two runs to score that would go on to give Springfield a 6-4 advantage. Spencer Steer hit a three-run homer to end the game to give Wichita a 7-6 victory.
Notes: Andrew Bechtold and Michael Helman both extend their hit streaks to nine games... The pinch hit home run is the first ever for the Wind Surge. The Surge improve to 4-1 in extra innings. The 11 inning game was the most innings Wichita has played.
Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume action tomorrow; May 19th, first pitch is at 7:05 and gates open at 6:00.
