Surge Shut out IceGators

Louisiana IceGators News Release

Biloxi, Mississippi--The second verse is the same as the first. For the second night in a row, the Louisiana IceGators gave up multiple goals early en route to defeat. The Mississippi Surge posted three goals in the first six minutes of the game in their 5-0 victory over the IceGators. Colin Reddin scored three points, including the first goal of the night and assists on the final two. Matt Kinnuen, Rob Campbell, Nick Guran, and Adam Stuart all scored goals as well. All of them except for Campbell picked up an assist as well. Surge goaltender Kiefer Smiley gave one of his most solid performances of the season, stopping all 19 shots he faced.

"Another slow start cost us," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "We talked about it in our morning meeting. We're on the road, and we need to weather the storm for the first five to ten minutes." Kaminski adds, "Mentally, I don't know where we are. We lost that edge, and we need to find it ASAP."

The IceGators also need to find their aggressiveness and willingness to shoot. For the second straight game, Louisiana put fewer shots on goal than its opponent. However, unlike Thursday night's game against Pensacola, the IceGators posted no more than seven shots on goal in a period during Friday night's contest.

Kaminski was quick to point out one improvement he would liked to see. "We need to play in traffic areas and fight through stuff and start winning the one-on-one battles," he said. Kaminski also notes a sense of urgency as this road trip comes to a close. "We need to salvage this trip with great effort and win [Saturday]."

The IceGators close out their weekend road trip Saturday night with a game in Southaven, Mississippi, against the RiverKings. That game is scheduled to start at 7:05 P. M.
