The Compton Cobras overcame a third quarter deficit to pull ahead of the San Diego's new pro ABA basketball team, the Surf, at the Cathedral H.S. Arena. Final score was 109 to 92. Compton converted a number of 4th quarter turnovers with a full press that the Surf was unable to handle.
The small but boisterous crowd showed their support for the Surf through all four quarters. Jamal Kendrick contributed 9 rebounds and 14 points in the losing effort. Richie "Rock" Williams, formerly of San Diego State, had a rock solid performance with 19 points, 4 steals and 6 rebounds. Landon Adler scored 16 points 10 rebounds before being sidelined in the 3rd quarter with a bruised shin. Brian Hills led the Surf with 21 points.
The Surf welcome the Los Angeles Slam, to their Cathedral H.S. Arena this Sunday at 7:30 for a re-match of the Surf's loss in Los Angeles last Saturday. Check out sdsurfhoops.com season schedule and roster information!
