San Diego Surf Advance to So Cal ABA Championship
March 5, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
San Diego Surf News Release
The San Diego Surf pulled off a major upset Friday night against the Los Angeles Slam of the American Basketball Association.
Despite only a six man team and missing three starters, the Surf outplayed the Slam in all aspects of the game for a 112-91 victory.
Guard Tim Denson was a true floor general on the court, directing the offense the whole game without taking a breather on the bench. Denson paced the Surf 21 points and 11 assists, including five three-pointers.
Wingman Kono Kadima shot lights out in the first half. After hitting a couple jump shots, the Slam were forced to respect his shot. When L.A. focused on stopping his shot, Kadima readily found Ervin Dunson driving to the hoop, who was a human highlight reel with several highflying dunks.
Dunson poured in a game high 42 points and pulled down 17 rebounds while Kadima contributed 22 poiunts and 12 rebounds.
Anthony Bruner also dropped six three pointers from outside and Papa Guisse racked up a game-high 21 rebounds.
Ken Wright led the Slam with 24 points and 17 rebounds.
The Surf advance to the Southern California championship Sunday night to face off against the ABA's 7th ranked San Diego Sol, who handedly beat the Mid Valley Titans of near Fresno in the first game.
The championship game is slated for an 8 p.m. tipoff and will be played at Alliant International University.
