Suns Take Series with 5-2 Victory over Braves

PEARL, MS -- The Jacksonville Suns defeated the Mississippi Braves 5-2 to take the series finale at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. With the win, Jacksonville claims the series three-games-to-two. The M-Braves head to Mobile for five games before returning to Trustmark Park Tuesday, May 28.

Mississippi (27-18) scored two runs on seven hits. The Suns (25-17) plated five runs on eight hits. Jacksonville committed one error in the game. Edward Salcedo was the only M-Brave to collect multiple hits in the game. He doubled and homered.

Salcedo launched his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the second, to put the M-Braves out front 1-0. Dan Brewer followed with a triple to left field before coming in to score on a Luis Nunez ground out and extending the M-Braves lead to 2-0.

Jacksonville responded in the top of the third. Chris Gutierrez singled and Noah Perio walked. Both runners advanced on a Adam Conley sacrifice bunt. Christian Yelich drove in Gutierrez with a ground out to second and Jake Marisnick followed with a single up the middle to score Perio and tie the game at 2-2.

Mark Canha singled to start the Suns half of the fourth. He moved to second on a ground out and J.T. Realmuto walked. Perio then delivered a RBI-single to left field, putting Jacksonville out front 3-2. Adam Conley walked to load the bases with two out. Yelich then singled to right, driving in Realmuto and making it a 4-2 game.

The Suns added another run in the fifth to make it 5-2. Marisnick singled and Kyle Jensen was hit by a pitch. Ryan Fisher followed with a single to center field, driving hom Marisnick.

Adam Conley (4-1) limited the Braves to two earned runs on five hits, a homer and one walk. He struck out one batter. Michael Brady (S, 8) came in to work the ninth and notch his eighth save of the season.

Aaron Northcraft (1-3) gave up five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five batter in five innings of work.

The M-Braves take a day off before traveling to Mobile for a five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium. In game one of the series, the Braves send right-hander Cody Martin (1-2, 2.79) to the hill where he'll counter BayBears lefty Andrew Chafin (1-2, 3.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM Thursday.
