Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Pittsfield Suns 12-11 on Sunday. This makes Worcester's overall record 32-19 for the season.
Pittsfield got the scoring started in the first, when Nick English (Kansas State) doubled, brining home one run. English then subsequently scored on a single by Austin Rachiele (MCLA), giving the Suns a two-run lead.
Worcester then started their own scoring in the same inning, with three runs scored in total. A double by Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) brought in one run, as did two singles by Marc Willi (Michigan) and Vincent Eramo (Fitchburg State). This made the score 3-2.
The Suns continued to score through the third and fourth innings. Two hits and a wild pitch scored in three additional runs, giving Pittsfield the lead at 5-3.
Once the sixth inning arrived, Pittsfield widened their lead substantially. A double by Matt Ryan (UMBC) allowed Jack Millan (Florida Atlantic) and Derek Paris (UMBC) to cross the plate, followed by an error by the Bravehearts catcher that made Ryan safe at the plate. One last run was scored by the Suns in the inning, when an additional double by English brought home Rob Taylor (New Haven). This made the score 9-3.
However, this five-run lead soon became diminished during Worcester's turn at the plate in the same inning. A single by Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) allowed Eramo to score, followed by a single by AJ Guindon (Wheaton) which brought in Christian Limón (Amherst College). A groundout then brought in Mike Maher (Wheaton), followed by a two-run single by Tyler Bastunas (Drury). The gap soon proved to be narrowed, with the Bravehearts trailing the Suns at 9-8.
Worcester scored one more run in the seventh, tying the game. However, Pittsfield soon took back the lead, with a two-run double by Ryan giving the Suns the lead at 11-9; followed by a single in the ninth that brought in one last run for Pittsfield.
Worcester scored two more runs in the ninth, one on a ground-out and the other on a balk. However, this proved to not be enough for a win, and so the Pittsfield Suns triumphed 12-11.
The winning pitcher was Suns closer Aaron Forgues (Hobart) who let up no hits and two runs in one inning pitched. The loss went to Worcester's Champ Davis (Wofford), who allowed one hit and two runs in one inning pitched.
The Bravehearts will be on all-star break for the next three days, where nine of the Bravehearts will be making an appearance at the Futures' League All-Star Game on Tuesday. Worcester will be back at Fitton on Thursday, in a doubleheader against the Nashua Silver Knights. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
