Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (10-19, 46-53) were shocked by the West Virginia Power (12-17, 43-56) 9-1 Saturday night at Municipal Stadium for the 11th sellout of the season.

West Virginia started it all with Aaron Baker hitting a homerun first up to bat in the second. After Baker, David Rubinstein kept the momentum with a double to left field. Driving in the second run was a line drive by Jairo Marquez.

The Suns could not answer back as the Power scored seven runs in the third inning. Both Baker and Marquez attributed to the 9-0 lead by both hitting line drive doubles.

With two outs, Brett Newsome brought some hope to the Suns by hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth making the score 9-1.

Hagerstown did not seem to get in the swing of things throughout the game having only one hit.

Josh Smoker (3-10) got the loss for Hagerstown pitching into the third. Smoker gave up eight runs and had one strikeout.

Getting the win was Powers Phillip Irwin (5-1) pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts.
