Suns offense good, not good enough

JACKSON, Tenn. - Greg Halman went five-for-five, including belting one of four West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (50-46, 9-17) homeruns leading the attack in a 12-7 Wednesday night win over the Jacksonville Suns (44-52, 11-15) in front of 1,245 at Pringles Park.

The Suns gained an early 5-0 lead against West Tenn starter Justin Thomas. The Suns used a Diamond Jaxx third baseman Matt Mangini error to score the first run. Juan Gonzalez singled home Russell Mitchell for a 2-0 lead. Adam Godwin later singled home Gonzalez for a 3-0 advantage while James Tomlin's single scored Godwin to open a 4-0 lead. Mark Bellhorn led off the second inning with his seventh homerun for a 5-0 lead.

After facing the minimum in the first two innings, Suns starter Jesus Rodriguez gave up the lead in the third inning, all the runs scoring with two out. Greg Halman belted a three-run homerun, Mike Wilson doubled home a run and Johan Limonta smashed a two-run homerun for a 6-5 West Tenn lead. Jon Nelson led off the fourth inning with his sixth homerun of the season for a 7-5 lead.

Jacksonville's Jamie Hoffmann belted a two-run homerun off of reliever Roman Martinez in the sixth inning to tie the game 7-7.

West Tenn took the lead for good in the seventh inning. Greg Halman drove home the go-ahead run with a single against reliever Brent Leach to give the Diamond Jaxx an 8-7 advantage. Following another walk, Leach left the game for Travis Schlichting. The right-hander allowed a walk to load the bases before giving up a grand slam homerun from Adam Moore for a 12-7 lead.

Denny Stark (2-3) picked up the win for West Tenn while Brent Leach (1-2) fell in the loss for the Suns.
