Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 17, 2015) - The Pittsfield Suns battled back yet again and overcame a four run deficit to top the Martha's Vineyard Sharks 6-4 Wednesday evening at Wahconah Park.

The Suns were down an early run in the first after Brian Campbell doubled and scored on a passed ball to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

Martha's Vineyard would pad its lead two innings later, plating three runs in the inning. Ryan Kelly reached first on a fielder's choice, stole second and then advanced to third on an error by Pittsfield second baseman, Cam O'Neill. With the runner on third Jack Roberts smacked an RBI double to plate the Sharks first run of the frame. Roberts scored on a consecutive double by Campbell. Donovan Casey then followed with an RBI-single to increase the lead 4-0.

The Suns comeback started in the bottom of the inning, getting one run back after a two out single by Tyler Lyne and a double by O'Neill to make the score 4-1 in the third. Pittsfield would shrink the lead even further in the sixth inning when hot-hitting Ryan Olmo teed off and homered to bring the Suns even closer, 4-2.

The real magic happened in the seventh inning when Pittsfield would send nine men to the plate to take a 6-4 lead against the Sharks. The four-run inning was highlighted by doubles from Matt Moarles and O'Neill and a single by Olmo. The Suns also got some help from Shark pitching, with a walk, wild pitch and passed ball, all recorded in the inning. Relievers Peyton Taylor and Dom Grillo worked quickly and easily shut down Martha's Vineyard in the final two innings to give the Suns a 6-4 victory.

Taylor would get the win for Pittsfield, after coming into the game in the seventh inning to relieve starter Adam Erkis. Taylor pitched two inning allowing one hit and striking out three before giving way to Dom Grillo who recorded the save. Sharks Brian Rapp recorded the loss.

The Suns are back in action at Wahconah Park Friday, June 19 at 7 PM. It's another Friday night fireworks extravaganza and Pittsfield Girls Softball Night at the park. Fans can enjoy fireworks immediately following the 7 PM contest between the Suns and North Shore Navigators.
