Pittsfield Suns News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA (July 24, 2015) - The Pittsfield Suns defeated the Worcester Bravehearts 3-1 Friday evening at Wahconah Park. Three Suns pitchers combined to only allow four hits and one run in the victory.
The first inning was the only inning in which the Bravehearts saw any action, as they would take an early 1-0 lead. A couple of singles from Mike Coggeshall and Ian Strom put two runners on before Zack Tower was pegged by a pitch to load the bases. Pittsfield starter Jamin McCann was able to get Evan Hirschaun to ground out, but walked David Noworyta after six pitched to plate Worcester's first and only run of the night.
The Suns scored two in the second inning to take the lead. Back to back walks to Casey McCone and Tyler Lyne and an error by Braveheart second baseman Dante Ricciardi loaded the bases. Cam O'Neill didn't waste the scoring opportunity and managed a 2RBI single to give the Suns a 2-1 advantage.
That's all the Suns would need as McCann settled into a rhythm and pitched six solid innings. He gave up one additional hit in the second inning before sitting down 12 straight batters. Peyton Taylor relieved McCann in the seventh, and he too would throw lights-out, only allowing one base runner in two innings of work, before Dom Grillo came in to record the save.
The Suns would add an insurance run in the seventh to make the score 3-1.
All in all, Suns pitching only allowed four hits and one run and would combine for nine strikeouts. McCann was credited for the win and Dom Grillo would get the save. Worcester's Dylan Collett was tagger for the loss.
The Suns are back at Wahconah Park tomorrow, Saturday, July 25th as they take on the league leading Bristol Blues at 7 PM. For tickets please call (413)445-SUNS or visit pittsfieldsuns.com.
