Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs Hockey Club, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced Monday that its game with the Colorado Eagles on Dec. 13 in which the two clubs combined for a CHL record-tying 10 power play goals has been named a finalist for the CHL Performance of the Year.

In the Eagles' 7-5 win on Dec. 13, both teams finished 5-for-12 with the man-advantage, matching a CHL single-game record with 10 combined power play goals. The game's first nine goals came on the power play before Colorado's Kevin Ulanski netted the first even-strength marker 7:50 into the third period. Joel Irving and Adam Perry each netted a pair of power play tallies for Arizona in the loss while Ryan Tobler collected a pair of man-advantage goals for Colorado.

Other finalists for the Performance of the Year include Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Ken Carroll earning his 29th career CHL shutout and his third of the season on March 20 in a 4-0 win over the Mississippi RiverKings, Mudbugs forward Travis Clayton playing in his CHL record-breaking 709th career game on November 21 against the Rocky Mountain Rage, Rapid City Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry's 27 saves in a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Eagles on November 29 in the first-ever home game for the expansion club and the Amarillo Gorillas scoring three goals in a 45-second span en route to a 6-5 win over the Odessa Jackalopes on February 28.

The Arizona Sundogs took home the first-ever CHL Performance of the Year in 2007-08 with their historic and record-setting come-from-behind win against the Rocky Mountain Rage on March 19, 2008.

The Sundogs trailed Rocky Mountain 5-0 after two periods of play and 6-3 with 1:23 remaining in regulation but used three goals separated by just 65 seconds to tie the game and force overtime. Eventual regular season scoring champion Alex Leavitt found the back of the net in the extra session to cap off the 7-6 victory. The win stands as the second-biggest third period comeback to force overtime in CHL history and is the biggest third period comeback to win a game in league history.
