Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Goaltender Levente Szuper and the Arizona Sundogs closed out a season-long eight-game road trip winning their third straight, topping the Bloomington PrairieThunder for the second time in five days Sunday afternoon at US Cellular Coliseum.
Trailing 2-0 late, Bloomington's Kerry Toddington spoiled Szuper's shutout bid and pulled his team back to within one with a power-play goal with 1:55 remaining in the contest. The PrairieThunder pulled goaltender Marco Emond in favor of an extra attacker but Arizona held on for the 2-1 victory.
With the win, the Sundogs have now earned points in five straight games dating back to a 4-3 shootout loss to the Dayton Gems on November 12.
Szuper made 31 saves to win his third straight and is 3-0-1 in his last four starts with a .944 save percentage.
Joey Sides broke a scoreless tie late in the second period with his second goal of the year, collecting a Luke Erickson pass from the far corner before snapping a shot past Emond from the slot with 3:28 to play in the middle frame.
Erickson has recorded at least a point in each of his first three games with Arizona, collecting five points (3g/2a) and a pair of game-winners since being dealt by the Rapid City Rush on November 10.
Rookie defenseman Jim Driscoll picked up his first professional goal 29 seconds into the third period, lifting a shot over Emond and extending his club's lead to two just as an Arizona power play came to an end. With possession in the corner, Kyle Hood recorded his eighth assist in as many games, threading a pass between the circles to Driscoll pinching from his position at the blue line.
Arizona has held its opponents scoreless in the first period in its last five contests.
The Sundogs were 0-for-4 with the man advantage while Bloomington finished 1-for-5 on the power play.
Prior to the game the team placed Karl Sellan on 10-day I.R. retroactive to November 19 and signed rookie forward Justin Taylor.
Arizona returns to Prescott Valley for a three-game set against the Allen Americans beginning Wednesday at 7:05pm (Arizona time). Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
