Arizona Sundogs News Release


The seventh-place Arizona Sundogs (22-30-6) sit nine points back of the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Southern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot with six games remaining in the regular season.

Arizona completed a three-game set against the Amarillo Gorillas last week at Tim's Toyota Center with a pair of wins and a loss. The Sundogs extended their season-high home win streak to three games with a pair of wins over the Gorillas on Wednesday and Friday before dropping the final game of the season series Saturday.

Arizona closes out it 2009-10 road schedule with its final three away games of the regular season on Tuesday against the Corpus Christi IceRays (6:05pm), Thursday against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (9:30am) and Saturday against the Laredo Bucks (6:30pm).

Sundogs Storylines:

- Doug Groenestege has played in 12 straight games for Arizona dating back to February 12 and has gone 7-4-1 in that span turning aside 374 of 409 shots for a.914 save percentage. The Stratford, Ontario, native collected his league co-leading third shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Amarillo on March 4.

- The Sundogs have allowed just four power-play goals in the last 38 opposition power plays (89.5%). Conversely, Arizona has converted just once in its last 33 power plays (3%).

- Arizona won its first game of the season when trailing after two periods on March 3 when it came back to beat Amarillo. The Sundogs were trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes of play but used a four-goal third period to top the Gorillas, 5-2. Arizona is just 1-27-3 this season when trailing after two periods. On the flip side, the Sundogs have yet to drop a game in regulation when leading after two periods (19-0-1).

- The Sundogs dropped just their second regulation loss of the season when scoring five or more goals in a game in a 7-5 loss to the Gorillas on March 6. Arizona is 10-2-1 when scoring five or more goals in a game.

- Arizona is playing above.500 hockey since January (13-12-3). The Sundogs were 9-18-3 in October, November and December.

- Konrad Reeder and Kyle Hood are tied for the team's scoring lead with 48 points. Reeder leads the team in goals (23) while Hood leads the team in assists (34).

- Rookie forward Joey Sides leads the team in plus/minus (plus-10) and is currently riding a four-game point streak that has seen him collect four goals, three assists and a plus-8 rating.

- Kyle Hood currently owns a four-game point streak, having collected seven points (3g/4a) in that span. The Vanderhoof, British Columbia, native leads the team in scoring over the last 10 games with 12 points (3g/9a).

- Linus Fagemo is second on the team in goals (22) and has three goals and an assist and is plus-5 in his last three games.

- Marc Belanger has tallied an assist in four straight games and is plus-4 in that span.

- Torren Delforte has four points (0g/4a) in the last four games and is plus-5 during that time.

- Kevin Jarman had a three-game goal scoring streak snapped in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Gorillas. The Aurora, Ontario, native has five goals and is plus-2 in 12 games with Arizona this season.
