Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs are winners of back-to-back home games for the first time this season as Kyle McNulty turned aside 28 shots for his first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the visiting Amarillo Gorillas Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

The Sundogs carried a 1-0 lead into the game's final 70 seconds before Kevin Gardner added an empty-net marker with 1:04 remaining in the contest.

Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown finished the night with 30 saves on 31 shots.

The two teams skated to a scoreless tie after 20 minutes of play Wednesday before rookie Joey Sides broke the stalemate with his seventh of the year from Mike Nesdill and Torren Delforte 6:39 into the second period.

Arizona controlled play in the middle frame, outshooting the Gorillas by an 18-7 mark.

Under pressure as he entered the offensive zone, Sides sent a wrist shot along the ice that beat Brown five-hole for the eventual game-winner.

Gardner nearly gave Arizona a two-goal lead a minute later as a rebound found its way onto his stick at the near post but Brown reached from the ice and snagged the effort with his glove to keep the Gorillas' deficit at one.

Both teams finished 0-for-4 with the man advantage Wednesday.

Wednesday's game marked the season's halfway point for the Sundogs (11-18-3) who sit nine points back of Rio Grande Valley and the Southern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot with 32 games remaining in the 2009-10 season.

Arizona now heads on the road for five-straight away from Tim's Toyota Center beginning Friday at 6:05pm (Arizona time) against the expansion Missouri Mavericks in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. The game can be heard live on KDDL 'Cattle Country' 94.3FM, the Official Radio Home of Arizona Sundogs Hockey, and online at www.cattlecountryradio.com.
