Odessa's Joel Martin Named Sher-Wood/TPS Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League announced today that Joel Martin of the Odessa Jackalopes has been named the Sher-Wood/TPS Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for the month of December/2009. Martin will receive a portable DVD player, courtesy of Sher-Wood/TPS, to recognize his accomplishment.

Martin, 27, finished the month with a 5-0-1 record having not suffered a loss in regulation for all of December. After losing in overtime on December 12 to Colorado Martin went on a four-game win streak beating Allen twice and Arizona twice. The Fort Worth, Texas native had a 1.14 goals against average allowing just seven goals in his six starts. Martin allowed one goal or fewer in five of his six starts. During the month, the two-time Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week stopped 199 of 206 shots for a.966 save percentage.

The Odessa Jackalopes net minder is 13-2-2 on the season with a 2.21 goals against average, which is currently the best in the CHL, and is carrying a.924 save percentage which is second in the league.

Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award for December include Allen's Chris Whitley, Bossier-Shreveport's Ken Carroll and John DeCaro, Colorado's Andrew Penner and Mike Mole, Missouri's Doug Groenestege, Odessa's Juha Toivonen, Rapid City's Danny Battochio and Miguel Beaudry, Rio Grande Valley's Wylie Rogers and Texas' Joe Palmer.
