Miami, FL - Texas Tycoon guard Benny West (6'3''-G-82, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Howard Payne) has signed with Fuerza Regia and has competed with Monterrey in Pool B of the FIBA Americas league currently being held in Miami, Florida.

West saw limited action in his first contest with his new team but was a big part of the reason why Fuerza Regia was beating the Miami Tropics through the first half of the game, connecting on 4 of 7 attempts from the field en route to 12 points and 7 rebounds. As shown on Fox Sports last night, West on a set play from baseline out-of-bounds caught an ally-oop pass and finished over 2 defenders extending Fuerza Regia's lead to 76-71 early in the third quarter.

West, who is best known as a slasher, defender, and finisher is spotting up in the corner in Fuerza Regia's high pick and roll sets which look to get guard Gerald Williams and Omar Quintero with space at the top. Look for Fuerza Regia to use more continuity based movement to get their best players going to the basket as pool play continues. The Tropics really clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter as Monterrey's offense became a little stagnant with a lot of high isolation.

Head Coach Jose Martinez of Puerto Rico will now have a few days to integrate the former All-ABA and Mexican League (CiBaCoPa) scoring and slam dunk champion, Benny West, into the offense. After holding the 5 point lead halfway through the 3rd period, Martinez rested West for a long stretch of the 3rd and 4th quarters as Miami pulled away.
