Styres Hoping for Two Wins Today

April 14, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Glenn Styres was among the room of Rochester Knighthawks lacrosse players getting pregame treatment today at The Blue Cross Arena. Styres made the pit stop in Rochester before moving on to nearby Fulton, NY, to race the Route 57 oval in the Patriot Sprint Tour plus Sportsman and Late Model Outlaw Weekend Qualifiers.

This afternoon, the "Ohsweken Flyer" will race in the A-Verdi Storage Containers "Methanol Meltdown," which has been billed as one of the "best Sprint Car shows in Upstate New York during the 2012 season."

Styres enters the event after scoring a thrilling upset victory on February 25th in the 40-lap Ronald Laney Memorial to conclude the 14th Annual "King of the 360's" Nationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa. Styres' first-ever A-Main win in the Sunshine State (28th overall) came in the final corner as he took the checkered flag and collected $10,000 after starting 18th aboard the No. 0 Arrow Express/Rochester Knighthhawks sprinter on the final night of Annual Winter Nationals.

It was even more satisfying for Styres after suffering through an injury-plagued season in 2011, which kept him close to his home track of Ohsweken Speedway. He co-owns the 3/8 mile clay oval with his brother Curt. Curt is also the owner and general manager of Knighthawks and owns the Major League Lacrosse Hamilton Nationals.

Last year, Glenn and Curt invited eventual NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart to the track. Stewart did more than sign autographs during his two-day visit. He captured his first World of Outlaws race on June 27th at the speedway. Stewart will return to Ohsweken Speedway from July 30-31. On the second day, he will race in the CORR/Pak 360 sprint program in the annual visit of the World of Outlaws and the "Six Nations Showdown."

In 2012, Glenn Styres plans to get out on the road more often and race tracks in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Nevada. He also wants to compete at the Knoxville Nationals (August 8-11), which he has not run since 2003. In his career, he has 27 wins, two Ohsweken Speedway Sprint Car titles and a series record four championships with the Southern Ontario Sprints.

Today, his focus is Fulton, NY, and a chance to win a World of Outlaws event. After competing in the 4:00 p.m. race, he will pack up and head back to Rochester to support his brother and the Knighthawks. The Knighthawks (5-8) have a key matchup against the 11-3 Calgary Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m. Rochester is locked in the NLL Playoff Race with just three weeks to play.
