Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Renegades' four game winning streak came to an end on Friday, but the club was able to rebound at home on Saturday and take the finale of the three-game series from the visiting Yankees. The Renegades received a strong start from southpaw Frank De Los Santos and got timely hitting from Jason Tweedy and Kyeong Kang to defeat the Baby Bombers by a score of 3-1.

De Los Santos was sharp in the early going, sitting down the first six batters in order before allowing a hit to Yankees third baseman Michael Lyon.

The Yankees were able to threaten in the fifth after an error by shortstop Robi Estrada, but the Renegades' left-hander was able to wiggle his way out of the jam and keep the game scoreless.

Staten Island starter Luke Greinke was equally effective, holding the Renegades to only one hit in his five innings of work. Reliever Jason Kiley replaced Greinke to start the sixth and the Renegades' offense finally got going. Jason Appel led off the inning with a bunt single. After a walk by Robi Estrada, Jason Tweedy extended his hitting streak to six games by lining a single to left, to load the bases. Designated hitter Jake Jefferies stepped to the plate and drove in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice. Kyeong Kang came up next and lined a clutch single to right field that plated Estrada to make it 2-0 Renegades.

The Yankees would threaten again in the top of the seventh by putting runners on second and third with no one out. De Los Santos was able to bear down and strikeout Dan Brewer and Taylor Grote to get the first two outs of the inning. That strikeout would put an end to De Los Santos' day and manager Joe Alvarez, trusting his strong bullpen, elected to call on John Baird to try and stop the Staten Island threat. The Yankees would touch up Baird and get one run back on an infield single, but the big right-hander got Walter Ibarra to fly out to center and keep the 'Gades in the lead 2-1.

De Los Santos was charged with the earned run, but only gave up three hits while striking out eight Baby Bombers in his 6 2/3 innings of work.

The Renegades would tack on an insurance run in the home half of the seventh after shortstop Estrada doubled to left and came around to score on Tweedy's second hit of the game. Tweedy is now batting .444 during his hitting streak and was 5-for-12 in the series against the Yankees.

John Baird remained in the game and retired the Yankees over the next 2 1/3 innings to earn his second save of the season.

The Renegades (7-5) head to Brooklyn to begin a three-game series against the Cyclones on Sunday night. Chris Andujar (0-0, 5.87) gets the call on the mound for the 'Gades and will square off against Brooklyn southpaw James Fuller (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.
