Strong Island Sound calm Frenzy 118-102

December 3, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Selden, NY- After being defeated in their first two home games last weekend, the Strong Island Sound showed their fans what they are capable of. The Boston Frenzy came into Suffolk Community College looking for their first win of the season. But the Sound had other ideas. A team effort resulted in a 118-102 victory for Long Island, whose record now stands at 2-5. Boston dropped to 0-5.

The first half was a back-and-forth contest which was even after the first quarter and Boston up by one point at halftime. This was a pleasant change of pace for Strong Island, who have struggled getting out of the gate. The home team dominated the third quarter and led by 10 points going into the final stanza. Boston made a run midway through the fourth quarter but the Sound held on for the victory.

The Sound used all 12 of their players for a total team victory. Newcomers Garnett Thompson and Michael Campbell contributed and gave the team a lift that they sorely needed. Campbell, a 6'6" guard out of LIU, led the way for the Sound with 24 points. Thompson is a fan favorite who attended Suffolk Community College and gives the Sound size in the middle with his 6'10" frame.

Sound Head Coach Joe Medina finally enjoyed a victory at home. "We're happy about the win but we have a long way to go. We need to work a lot more", Medina said following the game. "Mike (Campbell) and Garnett (Thompson) gave us a lift. By the second or third game together they will be a bigger help. This is just one step in coming together as a team".

F/C John Strickland, who had 22 points in 29 minutes, had the upcoming games on his mind. "We're happy to get one. The atmosphere is good with a win. We can get a good night's sleep and get ready for the job tomorrow. (Referring to the 12/3 game at Suffolk Community College versus the Niagara Daredevils). "Mike Campbell helped us out a lot. This was a good team win. Everyone got some minutes. We're happy for the coach. Everyone is smiling".

Strong Island also has sound contributions from Raphael Edwards (15 points, 8 rebounds), Gary Williams (17 points, 8 rebounds) and Roberto Gittens (17 points, 10 rebounds).

The Boston Frenzy were led by game high scorer Alexus Foyle, who had 28 points. Sly Macintosh (24 points) and Rob Sanders (17 points) also contributed for the visitors.

The Sound are right back at Suffolk Community College in Selden on Saturday December 3rd at 7 p.m. when they face the Niagara Daredevils.
