Strong Island ranked fourth in ABA Power Rankings
December 5, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release
Patchogue, NY-After the first month of the 2006-07 season, the American Basketball Association has released its initial Power Rankings. Following up their Final Four appearance from last year, the Strong Island Sound have started off 7-3 and are ranked in the fourth position nationally in the 48 team league.
The Power Ranking system is used by the ABA similar to the NCAA Top 25. The top 24 teams are ranked, which is also the league's playoff format. At the end of the regular season in March, teams 1-8 receive a first round bye, and teams 9-16 will host opening round games against teams in the 17-24 positions.
The top three teams this season are the Arkansas Aeroes (8-1), Jacksonville Jam (6-1), and Minnesota Ripknees (8-2).
Last season, the Sound finished 16-14 in the regular season and were ranked 13th headed into the post-season. After 10 games a year ago, Strong Island had the reverse of their current 7-3 record. The team is currently on a three-game winning streak and will head on the road this weekend, traveling to Brooklyn and Maryland.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
