Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 23, 2014) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are teaming up with Boy Scouts of America and will host "Scouts Night" in conjunction with the Strikers' July 26 match against their storied rival, the New York Cosmos. The Strikers and Boy Scouts have also launched a fundraising initiative, with Boy Scouts of America receiving a portion of the proceeds for each ticket sold by the scouts.
"The entire Fort Lauderdale Strikers organization is proud to be working with the Boy Scouts of America, an organization known for its community-centered work and its wholesome values," said Tom Mulroy, president of the Strikers. "Scouts Night will be a special and fun night for both scouts and Strikers families alike."
Scouts Night will be preceded by a special scouts-focused soccer clinic by Mulroy, which will fulfill Cub Scouts' requirements for the Soccer Belt Loop and as well as a number of requirements for the Boy Scouts' Sports Merit Badge. Clinic registration will occur from 4 to 4:30 p.m., with the clinic running from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on July 26. The clinic will be open to all scouts attending that night's Strikers-Cosmos match.
"Boy Scouts of America is excited to team up with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for Scouts Night on July 26," said Keith Jones, district director of the South Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America. "We expect scouts from all over South Florida to attend Scouts Night and support the Strikers-Boy Scouts relationship."
Scouts will also participate in ceremonies and be honored during pre-game festivities and again at halftime of the July 26 match.
