New York Cosmos News Release

NEW YORK (June 23, 2014) - The New York Cosmos announced today that the team has signed midfielder David Diosa to a contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I'm very excited to continue my career with the Cosmos," Diosa said. "I grew up with the Cosmos academy so this is home for me. I wanted to remain with the organization and be a part of the team's success going forward."

The Colombia-born Diosa, 22, is a Queens native and also a former New York Cosmos Academy product. Diosa began his career with the Cosmos in 2010, playing for the New York Cosmos Academy U-18 and U-23 teams before signing a professional contract with the Cosmos in 2013. Diosa made four appearances and three starts for the Cosmos during the 2014 NASL Spring Season.

In 2010, Diosa scored the first goal for a Cosmos side in 25 years when he opened the scoring for the New York Cosmos Academy U-18s in a U.S. Soccer Development Academy match against Connecticut's South Central Premier.

"David is a technically gifted, young player that we have seen improve at our club year-by-year," head coach Giovanni Savarese said. "I'm very pleased that we have signed him to an extension and look forward to watching him continue his development as a professional."

The Cosmos take on the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday, June 24, at PPL Park in the fifth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. ET.
