Strikers on NASL Team of the Week

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Wednesday, June 17, 2015) - Three Fort Lauderdale Strikers players were named to the NASL Team of the Week following the come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Minnesota United FC on Saturday. Fabian Kling and James Marcelin earned their first selections, while Stefano Pinho got the not for the second time in three weeks.

Here are the other top performers from Week 11:

GK: Romuald Peiser (Ottawa Fury FC) - Ottawa slammed the door shut on opposing attackers to close out the Spring Season with Peiser in strong form. With five consecutive clean sheets, he will carry a Modern Era record 526-minute shutout streak into the Fall Season. The native of France recorded three saves in the 0-0 draw with the San Antonio Scorpions, and now leads the league with 28 saves.

DEF: Julius James (San Antonio Scorpions) - Fury FC couldn't get much going in the attacking third, and James was a major factor why. The Trinidad and Tobago international's play in the center of defense helped 'keeper Matt Cardone post a shutout in his professional debut.

DEF: Erick Norales (Indy Eleven) - Indy will carry momentum into the Fall Season with two wins in its last two matches, with the most recent coming in convincing fashion. In a 3-0 win, Norales helped limit any attacking rhythm for FC Edmonton. The Honduran international has been a rock at the back all season long for the Boys in Blue earning his fourth Team of the Week nod.

DEF: Fabian Kling (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) - The Strikers were trailing at the half, but a stronger defensive performance in the second stanza aided in a comeback win against Minnesota United. Kling anchored the defense, as the German-born defender was integral in the 3-2 win.

MID: Dylan Mares (Indy Eleven) - In Indy's resurgence at the end of the Spring Season, play in the midfield has been key. In their win against the Eddies, Mares assisted on Brian Brown's opening goal, and the Indiana native then scored from the penalty spot just before the half to set the Eleven on a big win in the Spring Season finale.

MID: Martin NÃºñez (Tampa Bay Rowdies) - Throughout the Spring Season, NÃºñez has shown a knack for finding the back of the net from distance, and he did so again in a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Uruguayan midfielder stepped up to a free kick and left Silverbacks 'keeper Steward Ceus no chance with his effort to the top corner. His goal tied Maicon Santos for the team lead with three apiece.

MID: Juan Guerra (Tampa Bay Rowdies) - The Rowdies controlled the tempo of the match, and Guerra helped with a strong performance in the middle of the park. His play helped allow the attacking players to get further up the pitch in a dominant victory over Atlanta.

MID: James Marcelin (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) ??" It was a happy birthday for the Haitian international. Marcelin had the assist on Stefano Pinho's opener and helped marshal the center of the pitch in the Strikers' second-half comeback victory against the Loons.

FWD: Pascal Millien (Jacksonville Armada FC) - The Armada FC didn't make clinching the Spring Season title easy for the Cosmos. Millien found the back of the net twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw in New York. The Haitian international played a neat one-two with Jemal Johnson for his first, and then picked Cosmos midfielder Danny Szetela's pocket en route to completing his brace in the second half.

FWD: Hagop Chirishian (New York Cosmos) - Getting the start in the Cosmos' Spring Season finale, Chirishian put in a strong performance. He showed an adept touch on his goal when he controlled Szetela's long ball, flicked it over the head of Jacksonville goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo and fired into an empty net for his first goal of the year.

FWD: Stefano Pinho (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) - At the moment, the Brazilian forward can't stop scoring. Pinho scored four goals in three games to close out the Spring Season. The first came when Marcelin headed down a ball into his path in the third minute of the game, and he finished the second ten minutes from time for the game-winner in a morale-boosting road win for Fort Lauderdale.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers compete in the North American Soccer League (NASL). The Strikers were acquired last fall by an ownership group led by Paulo Cesso, Ricardo Geromel and Rafael Bertani. Brazilian soccer icon Ronaldo LuÃs NazÃ¡rio de Lima, commonly known as Ronaldo, joined the ownership in December. The team plays in venerable Lockhart Stadium, which was built in 1959 and has hosted professional soccer for more than 35 years. The team finished as the NASL runner-up in 2014.
