FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2W-3T-2L) fell to the NASL-leading Puerto Rico Islanders (4W-1T-1L) by a final score of 2-0 at Bayamon Soccer Complex on Saturday, May 12th. The Strikers conclude their three game road trip with two losses and one draw. They now return home for three straight matches at Lockhart Stadium.
"Puerto Rico was the better team on the night," said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. "We understand this is a hard place to play and every time we play it's going to be a tough match. At the end of the day it's going to be about who survives the battle."
The Strikers were shut out for the first time on the road this season after averaging two goals per game away from Lockhart Stadium.
The Islanders scored during stoppage time in the first half when Gregory Richardson found a cutting David Foley behind the Strikers defense. Foley's shot went over Strikers goalkeeper Matt Glaeser, who went low to prevent a far post attempt.
The second goal for Puerto Rico came off a deflected ball which fell to Hector Ramos. Ramos took a dribble into the penalty area and finished to the right of Glaeser for the 2-0 lead which is how the match would end.
The Strikers return home to face the defending NASL Champion Minnesota Stars FC on Saturday, May 19th, at 7:30pm at Lockhart Stadium.
