San Antonio Scorpions News Release

TAMPA BAY - The San Antonio Scorpions extend their win streak to three games with a thrilling 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday night.

Pablo Campos scored both goals for the Scorpions, including the game-winner in stoppage time, to keep San Antonio unbeaten on the road. Campos now has a team-high three goals on the season.

The team will look to build on its momentum when they return to San Antonio to face FC Edmonton at Heroes Stadium on May 19. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

In the early stages of the match, the Scorpions backline was able to thwart the Rowdies attack to keep the game scoreless and prevent any quality opportunities for the home side.

The Scorpions were able to put some pressure on later in the first half, when Walter Ramirez broke through the defense and had a clear look at the net, but his shot from the corner of the box went wide in the 31st minute of play.

In the 35th minute, San Antonio had another quality chance when Ramirez sent a pass to Campos in the box, but was unable to get a shot off. On the ensuing counter attack, the Rowdies nearly picked up a goal on a lead pass to Mike Ambersley in the box, but goalkeeper Daryl Sattler was able to break up the attempt.

Pablo Campos scored the game's first goal in the 52nd minute, receiving a pass from Hans Denissen and putting a shot past Rowdies keeper Jeff Attinella to give the Scorpions a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Daniel Antoniuk scored the equalizer for the Rowdies in the 55th minute of the game.

Antoniuk almost gave the Rowdies the lead in the 71st minute with a header off a cross from Frankie Sanfilippo, but Sattler made a diving save and deflected the ball away to keep the game tied.

Hans Denissen nearly gave the Scorpions the advantage again in the 80th minute, making a run down the right side and putting a shot on goal, but Attinella made the stop to deny the Scorpions the lead.

The Scorpions picked up the game winner when Esteban Bayona fired a shot on goal in stoppage time that Jeff Attinella initially saved, but Campos put the rebound into the back of the net to give San Antonio the lead and the win.
