FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, May 29, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have acquired goalkeeper Josh Ford on loan from Major League Soccer's Orlando City Soccer Club. Ford joined the Strikers yesterday and will be available for Saturday's North American Soccer League Spring Season match at the San Antonio Scorpions. Ford will be with the Red & Gold through the duration of the Spring Season.
"Josh is a great addition for us," said Strikers General Manager Amaury Nunes." Since we lost Joe Nasco to injury, we've needed to add another goalkeeper. We jumped at the opportunity when Josh came available and are grateful that we could work it out with Orlando City."
The Liverpool, New York native has yet to make an appearance for the Lions this season. Ford was originally drafted by Orlando City with the 20th selection in the second stage of the MLS re-entry draft earlier this year. Prior to signing with City, Ford spent four seasons with Seattle Sounders FC, including a loan spell with USL side Orange County Blues, after a standout career at the University of Connecticut.
Fort Lauderdale has started David Meves in goal for six of its eight competitive matches this season. Lionel Brown was in net for all 90 minutes of last Saturday's (May 23) NASL game against the Carolina RailHawks, giving up the game's lone goal.
Joe Nasco started one match this season, at Ottawa on April 25. Nasco broke his fibula and a bone in his foot while making a save against the Fury in the match's ninth minute. He is scheduled to have a cast removed from his leg next week, and then begin rehabilitation. Nasco is expected to rejoin the Strikers during the NASL Fall Season.
Ford, who trained with the club for the first time Thursday afternoon, will wear the number 1 jersey for the Strikers.
