Striker Tomi Ameobi Added to FC Cincinnati Roster

CINCINNATI, OH - Forward Oluwatomiwo "Tomi" Ameobi (oh-loo-wah-TOE-me-whoa "TOE-me" ah-me-OH-be) is the second player to join FC Cincinnati this week as the Newcastle, England native has signed a contract with the Orange and Blue and will begin training with the team this week, pending USL and federation approval.

"Tomi is a big, strong and quick striker who has a fantastic work-rate," Head Coach Alan Koch said. "He is a man of talent and exceptional character who is a welcome addition to our squad. We look forward to getting him up to match fitness as quickly as possible so that he can have a major influence on the team."

Ameobi comes to Cincinnati from FC Edmonton, where he played from 2014-17 and scored 21 goals and seven assists in 95 appearances, including 79 starts. The 29-year old has had extensive experience in Europe, signing his first professional contract at the age of 18 and making his professional debut with Leeds United FC.

Following a loan to Scunthorpe United, Ameobi went on to play for Doncaster Rovers (2008-09) and Forest Green Rovers FC (2009-10). He played in the Icelandic league with Bi/Bolungarvik in 2011 and then UMF Grindavik in 2012. Ameobi followed his time in Iceland with a year in Finland with Vaasan Palloseura in 2013 and scored nine goals and four assists before signing with FC Edmonton. His resume includes a Best XI accolade in 2011 and a Europa League qualification in 2013.

He played youth soccer with the Newcastle and Leeds United U-18 squads in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
