Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
CLEARWATER, FL (June 12, 2006) - Cal Ripken Jr's 2632 straight games, Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak and Orel Hershiser's 59 consecutive scoreless innings were all impressive streaks that eventually came to an end. The Fort Myers Miracle had one of their most impressive streaks snapped on Monday evening at Bright House Networks Field. Their game against the Clearwater Threshers was rained out, snapping a streak of 63 straight games without being washed out. It's the first time they've been rained out all season long. The two teams will make it up as part of a double header on Tuesday beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings with the second game beginning approximately 30 minutes at the conclusion of the first game. The Miracle send RHP Danny Powers (2-0, 2.59) to the hill in game one against Thresher LHP Derek Griffith (4-4, 3.73). In game two the Miracle will send LHP Justin Jones (1-1, 1.85) against LHP Randy Wolf (0-0, 0.00), making his second Major League rehab start. The Miracle remain a half game up on the Lakeland Tigers and one game ahead of the Dunedin Blue Jays with seven games to go, as their game was also rained out.
