Anderson Joes News Release
MACON, GA. - Macon Music starter Ross Stout entered last night's game against Anderson with impressive numbers on the season, but nothing signaling the untouchable performance he delivered against the Joes on Monday.
Stout threw a complete game, two-hit shutout, walking none and striking out 10 in an 8-0 Music victory in front of 3,021 at Luther Williams Field.
Stout entered the game with a 3-1 record and 2.87 ERA for Macon (17-10), but the stats could only foreshadow his effort against Anderson (6-21).
Stout needed only 91 pitches to throw the shutout, facing just one hitter more than the minimum. He retired the last 20 hitters he faced to end the game.
The game started off in the worst way for Anderson, with Joes starter Ken Salyer lasting only 18 pitches into the game. Only four pitches counted for strikes, as Salyer left the game allowing three runs without recording an out. Daniel Howard, making his professional baseball debut, came on in relief and pitched four scoreless innings for the Joes, allowing three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Howard also had one of the two Joes hits when he singled in the third inning. Right fielder Billy Hogan had the other, singling in the first.
Offensively for Macon, first baseman Scott Robinson led the way with a 2-for-3 night, scoring three times and driving in two. Rick Simpson and Carlos Arroyo scored twice each, while Dorian Rojas and Ismael Castro drove in two and three runs, respectively. Macon scored three times in the first and fifth innings, tacking on two insurance runs in the seventh.
However, Anderson was no match for Stout, who became just the second pitcher in the South Coast League to throw a complete game. He improved to 4-1 with the win, as Salyer dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Anderson returns to action Tuesday night, facing Macon at 7:05. The probable starters are Domingo Gomez (0-2) for Anderson and Ralph Roberts (2-1) for Macon.
