Storm-Wings Tilt Saturday, Capicchioni Continues Quest

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Fresh off of a 14-12 pre-season victory over the Buffalo Bandits last Friday evening at the HSBC Arena, the New Jersey Storm take the turf again this Saturday against division rival the Philadelphia Wings at The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ for a pre-season scrimmage.

After making history last weekend against Buffalo as the first woman to ever play in a National Lacrosse League (NLL) game, Storm goalie Ginny Capicchioni will once again see action. She turned away ten Bandit shots and allowed five goals in the second quarter of Friday's game. The Oradell, NJ native is a former nationally ranked lacrosse goaltender from Sacred Heart University and three-time Northeast Conference "Goalie of the Year" - in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

The Storm will be looking for strong repeat performances from three forwards who excelled in Friday's win: Scott Stewart (2G, 2A), Mike Benedict (1G, 3A), and Roy Colsey (2G, 1G).

The Wings are coming off of a pre-season loss to the Colorado Mammoth (formerly Washington Power) last Friday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Philadelphia boasts two NLL All-Stars in forward Tom Marechek, whose 98 points (45G, 53A) ranked him fifth in total League scoring last season, and net minder Dallas Eliuk, whose 140 goals against was third best in the NLL behind Storm goalie Matt Roik (138) and Toronto's Bob Watson (131).

New Jersey and Philadelphia split their season series last year with the Wings claiming a 17-15 road win on January 20, 2002 and the Storm getting the equalizer with a 13-11 victory at the First Union Center on February 17, 2002. The squads will once again meet twice during the 2002-2003 regular season with Philadelphia visiting the Garden State on February 6, 2003 and the Storm traveling down the New Jersey Turnpike for a February 22, 2003 showdown in Philadelphia.

The Storm will officially open this season on the road versus the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, December 28 at 7:35 p.m. The team opens at home on Saturday, January 4 vs. Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Eight-game and four-game season ticket plans and McFamily Plans are on sale now by calling 1-866-NJ STORM.
