Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (January 31, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm announced today that the first of their two annual day games will be played on Monday, February 7th at 11:05 AM. The purpose of the day games is to invite students from the surrounding areas to see a professional basketball game, along with incorporating an educational program. This year the Storm is happy to announce that representatives from the Birch Run Police Department and Fire Department will be here, along with police and fire vehicles, to address safety and fire issues. The program will begin at 10:00 AM as groups of students will gather in the North Arena to get an up close and personal view of the safety vehicles. At halftime of the game, the Police and Fire representatives will once again review what they learned earlier and quiz the children. Students with correct answers will have a chance to win Storm memorabilia.

"We are excited about partnering up with the Storm to educate students in the surrounding communities about safety," said Birch Run Policeman Jason Leidel. "It is an honor to be invited to the Birch Run Expo Center to speak to the students regarding fire safety," said Birch Run Fireman Oscar Placher. "I'm sure these students have been lectured about fire safety, but you can never overeducate such an important issue."

If your school is interested in coming to the game on February 7th or March 7th, please contact the Storm office at (989) 624-4665 for details. Media is welcome to attend and interview Storm staff and/or policemen/firemen before the game. Contact Public Relations Director Brett Hansen with any questions.
