Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm held on for a 3-1 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Wednesday night, taking two of three from the Quakes in the series at The Epicenter.
Storm starter Erik Davis (7-2) fired five scoreless innings and All-Star closer Brad Brach worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his league-leading 25th save of the year.
Reigning Cal League pitcher Tyler Chatwood was denied his league-leading ninth win, as he surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings, taking the loss and ending his seven-game winning streak.
Chatwood (8-3) was touched for a pair of runs in the third, as Drew Cumblerland and Cole Figueroa had back-to-back RBI hits, putting the Storm in front 2-0.
The Quakes didn't break through on the scoreboard until the eighth. Beau Brooks walked to open the inning against Storm reliever Nick Vincent. After Darwin Perez reached with a bunt base hit, Rian Kiniry poked a single through the hole on the left side, loading the bases for Tyson Auer. Auer delivered a deep fly ball to center field, scoring Brooks and moving Perez to third, making it 2-1. Alexi Amarista fanned for the second out though and Gabe Jacobo popped up to center field to end the rally.
Quakes' closer Eddie McKiernan gave up a run in the ninth, as Robert Lara knocked in Daniel Robertson with an RBI single, making it 3-1.
The Quakes couldn't touch Brach in the ninth, as they went in order, with Angel Castillo striking out to end the game.
The Quakes (38-29) look to rebound on Thursday night, opening a three-game set against Inland Empire, here at The Epicenter. Manny Flores (1-3) takes on Inland Empire's Ethan Martin (6-5), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
