Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took advantage of six Lake Elsinore errors on Tuesday night, defeating the Storm by a score of 10-7 at The Epicenter.
Eric Oliver drove in a career-high four runs and helped bring the Quakes back from an early 4-0 deficit.
Both teams looked sloppy in the early-going, as Quakes' starter Orangel Arenas gave up two quick runs in the first inning. RBI singles by Cody Decker and Adam Zornes made it 2-0. A throwing error by second baseman Jon Townsend allowed two more to score as the Storm had a 4-0 lead before the Quakes came to bat.
With the bases loaded in the first and two outs, Oliver delivered with a three-run double down the left-field line, making it a one-run game at 4-3.
The Quakes took the lead in the third, scoring twice on Storm starter Steve Garrison. Gave Jacobo singled home a run with an infield-single, tying the score at 4-4. With runners at first and third, Garrison balked, as Luis Jimenez came home to give the Quakes a 5-4 lead.
That lead held until the seventh. Eventual winner Steven Geltz (3-1) surrendered a game-tying homer to Blake Tekotte, his eighth of the year and second in as many games, as the Storm evened the game at 5-5.
The Quakes took the lead for good in the seventh, as Luis Jimenez scored from third base on a wild pitch by Rob Musgrave (1-1), putting Rancho up 6-5.
Four more in the eighth inning gave the Quakes some insurance at 10-5. The inning was keyed with RBI singles from Jimenez and Oliver, along with three of Lake Elsinore's six errors.
In the ninth, Quakes' reliever Kyle Hurst walked a pair and gave up a two-run double to Drew Cumblerland with two outs, making it a three-run game at 10-7. But with the tying run on deck, Lake Elsinore's Bo Davis popped up to right field to end the game.
The Quakes (38-28) are back to ten games over the .500 mark, heading into the rubber game of the three-game set on Wednesday night against the Storm. Tyler Chatwood (8-2) takes on Storm right-hander Erik Davis (6-2) at 7:05pm.
The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates on Wednesday night will receive a Quakes' Alumni Magnet, honoring one of the great Quakes from years past. Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
