Storm Take Series Lead in Tight Contest at Eastlink Centre
(Charlottetown, PE) Nick Okorie scored 14 of his game high 26 points in the 4th quarter while Brandon Robinson and Mike Martin hit 5 consecutive foul shots between them in the last 30 seconds as the Island STORM took a 2-1 lead in the best of 5 first round series with a 108-107 win over the Saint John Mill Rats Sunday afternoon at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
1,356 STORM Fans were in a frenzy as as the score was tied at 77 going into the 4th quarter. The Mill Rats had a 28-22 lead after the 1st quarter while the STORM led 53-48 at the half.
Nick Okorie had 5 assists to go along with his 26 points while Brandon Robinson scored 17 and grabbed 7 rebounds, Nick Evans was 16 and 9, Mike Martin 15 and 8, while Mike Williams was 14 and 9. The STORM outrebounded the Mill Rats 57-37 and the STORM bench outscored the Mill Rats bench 31-11.
For the Mill Rats, Ricky Volcy scored 26 points which included 6 for 12 from 3 point range. Kenny Jones had 21 points while Keith Cothran had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
With the win the STORM are 11-4 all-time at home in the playoffs.
The best of 5 now shifts to Harbour Station in Saint John for game 4 in the series and if a 5th game is needed it will be played at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Thursday evening at 7pm.
Cody Gotell was the winner of the 50-50 taking home half of $1,657.00.
