Storm suffer from the power of the Sting

Glendale, AZ (February 21, 2004) – The Anaheim Storm (0-6) traveled to Arizona for the first time this season, hoping to even the score against Western Division rivals, the Arizona Sting (4-4). The first meeting between these two teams was the Storm home opener on January 10th. The game was the longest in National Lacrosse League history with three overtimes; the Sting finally took the win, 19-18.

Today, no overtime was played but the Storm were again unable to fight off the Sting, falling 12-9 after four quarters. Chris Panos (3G, 2A) started the Storm off with a goal in the first quarter. Brian O'Keefe (2G) got in on the action at the end of the first half, tying the game, 4-4, at the buzzer. Roy Colsey (2G, 2A), Scott Stewart (1G, 2A) and Chris Seller (1G, 1A) all contributed goals as well.

The Storm made a run to even the score with three goals near the end of the fourth quarter, bringing the game to 11-9. The scoring stopped after the ninth goal and with an empty net and 1:12 remaining on the clock, Peter Lough (2G) scored the game-winning goal for the Sting.

Tomorrow, in Denver, Colorado, Team Captain Casey Powell and forward Michael Law will be representing the Anaheim Storm as reserves in the 2004 NLL All-Star game. The game will feature the All-Stars of the East Division against the All-Stars of West Division on Sunday, February 22 at Pepsi Center in Denver, home of the Colorado Mammoth. The reserves are chosen by the coaches of each All-Star team. The starting Forwards are Gavin Prout (Colorado), Gary Gait (Colorado) and Tracey Kelusky (Calgary).
