SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm moved to 1-1 after defeating rival Arizona Rattlers 50-46 on Saturday, May 22nd at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

The Storm started the game on a hot streak after a 22-yard touchdown pass from Lorenzo Brown to JoJo Gause, then a one-point rouge and a quick interception by Brandon Roe; giving the Storm an early 8-0 lead. The Rattlers got on the board after a seven-yard rushing touchdown by Darrell Monroe, bringing the score to 8-7. The Storm would end the first quarter with a 14-7 lead after 39-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Brown to JoJo Gause and then a fumble recovery by Marquis Hendrix.

The Storm would extend their lead to 17-7 after a 27-yard field goal by Chase Vinatieri to begin the second quarter. The Rattlers would take their first 17-21 lead of the game after scoring back-to-back touchdowns; first was a one-yard quarterback keeper by Drew Powell and then a 14-yard touchdown pass from Drew Powell to Jarrod Harrington. The Storm would retake a 23-21 lead after a 58-yard kickoff return by Nate Chavious. The Rattlers would take a 23-24 lead into halftime after a 25-yard field goal by Ernesto Lacayo.

Darrell Monroe began the third quarter with a three-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Rattlers lead to 23-31. The Storm cut the lead to 29-31 after a 25-yard touchdown pass from Lorenzo Brown to JoJo Gause. Brandon Roe would intercept Drew Powell's pass to give the Storm possession again. The Storm would capitalize on the turnover and would retake a 36-31 lead after a 11-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Sheperd from Lorenzo Brown.

Arizona would retake a 36-38 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter after a three-yard touchdown pass from Drew Powell to Jarrod Harrington. The Storm would extend their lead to 50-38 after scoring back-to-back touchdowns; first was a two-yard touchdown pass to Damian Ford from Lorenzo Brown then a 24-yard touchdown pass to Nate Chavious from Lorenzo Brown. The Rattlers came back with a four-yard rushing touchdown and successful two-point conversion by Darrell Monroe, bringing the score to 50-46. The Ratters would try a on-side kick but an offsides penalty wiped out the Rattlers recovery and the Storm would run the clock out and emerge victorious.

Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed 15 of 23 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown along with 37 rushing yards. Running back Nate Chavious had 33 rushing yards. Wide receivers JoJo Gause had 96 reception yards and three touchdowns, Brandon Sheperd had 27 reception yards and one touchdown, Damian Ford had eight reception yards and one touchdown along with 45 rushing yards and Alonzo Moore had 30 reception yards. Linebacker Marquis Hendrix lead the Thunder Defense with 10 total tackles and 0.5 tackle for loss. Defensive linemen Ch'aim Smith had 1.5 tackles for loss and Dequan Harvin had one tackle for loss. Defensive backs Brandon Roe had two interceptions while Solomon St. Pierre and Roosevelt Lawrence each had one pass break-up.

The Sioux Falls Storm will travel for their first road game of the season on Saturday, May 29. The Storm will face the Louisville Xtreme at 6:05 PM. The game will be on YouTube and the Storm will have a viewing party at Blue Rock Bar & Grill.
