Storm Strengthens 2019 Defensive Line

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm are pleased to announce the signings of defensive lineman Claude Davis, Charles Williams, Desmond Jackson and Sergio Phillips for the 2019 season.

Davis (6'5, 265) will be returning to the Storm for his fifth season. During the 2018 season, Claude tallied 29 tackles, two sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, four pass break-ups and one block. Claude was named to the All-IFL Second-Team Defense roster back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017.

"Claude Davis is a seasoned vet that can do many different things," stated Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. "Claude is athletic enough to play multiple positions and do it at a high level."

Williams (6'2, 250) is returning for his second season with the Storm. During the 2018 season, he was able to accumulate five tackles, one tackle for loss and one block in three games. Charles played collegiately at Northwood University where he tallied 156 total tackles, 17.5 sacks, 38 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five pass break-ups and one block.

"Charles is a great athlete that was able to come in at the end of the season and help contribute," said Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. "We look for Charles to come in immediately and compete for a starting job."

Jackson (6'1, 315) will be entering his first season in the Indoor Football League. He played collegiately at the University of Texas where he finished his career with 122 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 16.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. Desmond was a 2015 Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection.

"Desmond 'Tank' Johnson is a strong physical player that can help shore up the defense in the middle," stated Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. "We know Desmond has competed at a high level and can bring a physical presence."

Phillips (6'3, 260) will be entering his first season in Sioux Falls. Sergio played collegiately at San Diego State University where he registered 87 tackles (38 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble and one pass break-up. He was named a Preseason Second-Team All-Mountain West selection.

Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs said, "Sergio is a talented athlete that can play NG and DE, plus he has some offensive line experience. Sergio will bring in some youth and athleticism and we look for him to create some pressure."
