Storm Storylines

Tri-City Storm News Release

The Tri-City Storm have 5 games remaining in this year's regular season schedule, 4 of them at the Viaero Center in Kearney. This week, the Storm will play a Wednesday night game against Omaha, and a Friday night game against Lincoln both at home, before travelling to Lincoln on Saturday night. Despite losing 4 games in a row, Tri-City is still in the final playoff position in the Western Conference with two weeks left in the season schedule.

Tri-City's "Magic Number" to clinch a playoff spot is 5. If the Storm get 5 of a possible 10 points in the standings over the final games of the season schedule, they will clinch a playoff spot regardless of what happens around the league. Every time Tri-City wins a game, the Storm are 2 points closer to clinching a playoff spot, and each time Sioux City loses a game, Tri-City is also 2 points closer to clinching a playoff spot. The playoff clinching number of 5 cannot increase and can only go down. There is the potential for a 4 point swing on Friday, April 13th in the Storm's 2nd to last game of the season. If Tri-City has not clinched a playoff spot by that game, the Storm can lower its magic number by 4 with a regulation win in that game.

Team Notes:

- Tri-City has now dropped its last 4 games and currently leads Sioux City by 7 points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference standings.

- Lincoln, Tri-City, and Sioux City are the only teams remaining in the Western Conference standings who have not already clinched a playoff berth or have not been eliminated from playoff eligibility.

- The Top 2 seeds in each conference will get a bye during the 1st round of this year's playoffs. #3, #4 seeds will host #5, #6 in a best of 3 series with all 3 games being hosted by the higher seed.

- At this point in the playoff race, Tri-City is one loss or one Sioux Falls win away from being mathematically eliminated from a home ice advantage in round one.

- It is very likely that the Storm will play travel to either Waterloo, Fargo, Omaha, or Sioux Falls for a 1st round playoff matchup should the Storm qualify for this year's Clark Cup Playoffs.

- Sioux City plays Waterloo on the road tomorrow night, if Sioux City loses that game, Tri-City will have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot at home on Friday night with a win over Omaha on Wednesday

- Tri-City is now 29-22-2-2 on the season with a home record of 13-12-1-0 and a road record of 16-10-1-2

- The Storm is now 2-6-1-1 in its last 10 games

- The attendance at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls for Saturday's game was 7,435. It was the largest crowd the Storm have played in front of this season.

Individual Notes:

- Forward Filip Forsmark and Defenseman Hugo Blixt scored the Storm's two goals on Saturday night against Sioux Falls

- Defenseman Mike Koster and Defenseman Hugo Blixt scored the Storm's two goals on Friday night against Sioux City

- Defenseman Bryan Yoon and Forward Tyler Madden lead Tri-City with 34 points on the season. Tyler Madden was held out of Saturday's game in Sioux Falls due to injury.

- Defenseman Bryan Yoon leads Tri-City with 31 assists on the season. The Storm record for most assists by a defenseman in a single season is 34.

- Forward Tyler Madden leads the Storm with 15 goals on the year.

- Forward Tyler Ward, Forward Johnny McDermott, Forward Joey Cipollone, and Defenseman Bryan Yoon have skated in all 55 Storm games this season.

- Goaltender Jake Barczewski stopped 71 of 77 shots this weekend but recorded the loss in net in both games this weekend.

- Jake Barczewski is now 10-10-2-1 on the year with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.51 and a save percentage of .911

- Barczewski is expected to start all three of the Storms games this week.

- Barczewski has started the last 7 games for Tri-City since returning from injury on March 17th.
