Storm Still Finding Way, Fall to Predators 63-30

Tampa Bay Storm News Release

Tampa Bay - Defense and Special teams were the main attraction on Thursday night at the St. Pete Times Forum in the preseason version of the War on I-4, with the Storm and Predators sharing two special teams and three defensive touchdowns an in a 63-30 Predators win.

The Storm were looking to improve upon a 56-19 loss earlier in the week, and did so in a number of facets in their final tune-up before the start of the 2011 AFL season. The Defense looked imposing, scoring twice; the first of which on a rookie defensive line Richard Clebert five-yard sack for a safety in the second quarter and second on a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by rookie defensive back Justin Hannah in the third stanza. Defensive Coordinator Donnie Abraham's influence is showing as the Storm defensive backs recorded two pass break ups along with the Hannah interception.

"The defense backs played decent tonight", said Abraham. "It is hard to evaluate them this evening because they didn't have a large number of snaps in the first half, but they definitely made some big plays."

The reason for the lack of defensive activity in the first half can be attributed to the Storm offense. The Storm were able to put together several long drives, resulting in 19 minutes and 59 seconds of possession in the first half. And even though a few of those possessions did not end in scores, the offense took the pivotal first step in the search for consistency heading into the season.

Quarterbacks Mike Potts and Grant Gregory each threw for one touchdown, both to rookie receiver Michael Lindsey. Lindsey also had a 56-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
