Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (November 24, 2004) – The Great Lakes Storm won the game tonight against the Gary Steelheads 101-95 (6.0, 1.0) to move to 3-0 on the season. It is easily the best start in the young franchise history. The Storm came out strong and had to hold off a fourth quarter rally by the Steelheads to remain undefeated.

The Steelheads came out on fire as they shot 64.7% in the first quarter. David Graves, a sharpshooter out of Notre Dame, led the charge with eight first quarter points. The Storm trailed by seven with less than two minutes remaining and any chance at a quarter victory seemed bleak. However, Ezra Williams scored eight points in the final minute, including a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to win the first quarter 25-24. The second quarter was evenly matched and the Storm went into halftime with a 49-43 lead. The Storm pushed the lead to as many as 17 points with just over six minutes to go in the third quarter, and held on to lead by 12 after three. Looking for the second 7-0 quarter sweep in as many games, the Storm found themselves battling for the win by the end of the fourth quarter. Steelheads rookie Renaldo Major came off the bench and proved to be instant offense as he scored all 12 of his points in the fourth quarter. The Steelheads actually took their first lead since the second quarter with four and a half minutes remaining in the game. The Storm was able to hold off the late rally and held on for a six point victory.

The Storm's next game is on Friday, November 26th on the road against the Idaho Stampede. Tip-off is set for 7:10 at the Idaho Center.
