Storm sign college draft pick Stephen Brust

February 21, 2008 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) - Chicago Storm News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - The Chicago Storm announce the signing of forward Stephen Brust for the remainder of the 2007-08 season. Chicago chose the Arlington Heights, Ill., native and Bradley University standout in the third round of the 2008 Major Indoor Soccer League College Draft on Jan. 29. Per team policy, financial terms of Brust's two-year contract are not disclosed.

"We had a roster spot available, and we need more depth up front at forward, at the target position," Storm head coach Steve Morris said. "He brings us a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and he defends hard."

"I'll have a lot of family and friends coming out on Saturday, so it's an exciting thing," said Brust, regarding this weekend's match against Baltimore at the Sears Centre Arena. "I got a call from Coach (Morris) and he said to stay in Chicago and keep playing soccer. How can you ask for anything more?"

Following the college draft, Brust participated with the Storm during their two exhibition matches against the American Indoor Soccer League's Rockford Rampage in February. Brust had two goals in a 7-3 win against Rockford on Feb. 9.

"I think I played pretty well," Brust said. "It's a physical game, and being a target up top to post off, it's not like these guys are little guys. There are some big, big boys, and I'll definitely have to adapt. For the past three weeks, every day is a learning process."

Brust (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) was named Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference this past season for Bradley. In 25 games, Brust was fourth on the Braves with 13 points and he recorded two game-winning goals.

The John Hersey High School graduate scored 26 goals in 2002 and earned three varsity letters as a midfielder. He earned all-conference, all-area and all-sectional honors as a high school senior.

Next up for the Storm is a 7 p.m. match Saturday, Feb. 23, against the Baltimore Blast. Both teams carry 13-8 records and share third place in the MISL standings. Following Saturday's match is the third stop of the Storm's and Q101's game and a concert series, brought to you by Comcast. The latest featured band is the Chicago-based Lovehammers.

The Chicago Storm are members of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Storm offices are located at 5333 Prairie Stone Pkwy., in Hoffman Estates.
