Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm and wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels have partnered with the March of Dimes for the remainder of the season and will sponsor a team called Samuels' Soldiers for the WalkAmerica to be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006. Samuels has been involved with the March of Dimes for the past four years.

"The March of Dimes and the research they do are critical in the fight against prematurity," Samuels said. "They had a direct impact on my life and the lives of my family and we owe it to them to do what we can. If we can help prevent one family from going through what we had to go through then this would be worth it."

Samuels, his wife Kellei and his daughter are the March of Dimes ambassador family for Pasco County. His daughter, Landry, was born dangerously premature and weighed two pounds, 12 ounces when she was born weeks ahead of schedule. The family will serve as a living example of the March of Dimes' programs at work in the community.

The Storm are inviting all fans and the Tampa Bay community to join Samuels' Soldiers WalkAmerica Team and help raise money for WalkAmerica in honor of Landry. At all remaining home games the March of Dimes will be on the plaza level concourse raffling off autographed Storm and Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) items, taking donations and signing people up for Samuels' Soldiers.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community service, education and advocacy and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth. For more information visit the March of Dimes web sites at marchofdimes.com, walkamerica.org or call the local division at 800.333.DIME.

Nearly half a million babies are born premature every year, including more than 25,000 in Florida. Some of them do not survive while others will face lifelong disabilities. Premature birth is a common, serious and costly problem that impacts all of us. Money raised supports research and programs to fight prematurity, the leading cause of death among newborns.

Fans who are not able to sign up at any remaining Storm home games can sign up at www.tampabaystorm.com.
