Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The five-time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm have re-signed free agent wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels to a two-year contract extension, Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Tim Marcum announced today.

"When I think Storm football there is no name that is synonymous as Lawrence Samuels," Marcum said. "He has made remarkable contributions to this league and the Storm. The consummate pro, he and his lovely wife Kellei are a huge part of this community and we are proud that Lawrence is returning for his unprecedented 13th season."

Samuels, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound native out of Livingston (AL) University (now formally known as the University of West Alabama), will be playing his 14th Arena Football League season in 2007. He is tied for fourth all-time in AFL seasons served and led all Storm players with 115 receptions for 1,306 yards and 22 touchdowns last season en route to Second-Team All-Arena honors for the fourth consecutive year. Samuels, a three-time World Champion (1995-1996, 2003), is only the fourth Storm player to record consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons (2005 - 1,411).

Samuels is the franchise leader in receptions (712), receiving yards (8,626) and tackles (377), while also ranking eighth all-time in AFL history for receiving yards with 9,368 and seventh with 777 receptions.

The pride of Mobile, AL prepped at John S. Shaw High School where he received All-Area honors while also being named to the "Super 22" in the county. Samuels played four seasons at Livingston (1989-92) and was the recipient of the Maxie Caldwell Award in 1992 as the Most Improved Player.

Last season, along with the Storm, Samuels and wife Kellei joined forces with the March of Dimes in WalkAmerica held on April 29, 2006. Samuels sponsored a team called "Samuels' Soldiers" in the benefit walk. The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The Samuels' first born, Landry, was born dangerously premature and weighed two pounds 12 ounces when she was born weeks ahead of schedule. The family has served as a living example of the March of Dimes' programs work in the community.

Two weeks ago, the family celebrated the birth of Wilson Bishop, the Samuels' second daughter.
