Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm players will undergo the ImPACT Concussion test at Orthopedic Institute on Thursday, February 10.

ImPACT, which stands for Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, is a program developed in the early 1990's to help physicians analyze the effects of concussions.

Orthopedic Institute has led the charge in the Sioux Empire area for implementing the ImPACT test for athletes. This is the same test used by the National Football League.

According to ImPACT.com, "it is important to manage concussions on an individualized basis and to implement baseline testing and/or post-injury neurocognitive testing."

This baseline test will help team doctors in deciding whether or not a player is fit to return after receiving a concussion.

Some of the features that the test has include the ability to measure player symptoms, measure verbal and visual memory, and process speed and reaction time to the 1/100th of a second.

"This is why we choose Orthopedic Institute to take care of our players," Storm owner Todd Tryon said. "They continue to stay ahead of the curve and lead the charge in the Midwest."

2011 season tickets are now available and may be purchased at www.siouxfallsstorm.com or by calling the Storm office at (605) 274-6686.
