Reading Express News Release

Reading, Pa. (February 9, 2011) - The Reading Express indoor pro football organization today announced the team's 2011 pre-season roster. Training camp begins Saturday at noon at the Sinking Spring Family YMCA in Sinking Spring, Pa.

Under the rules of the Indoor Football League, the Reading Express are allowed to bring up to 45 players to camp. With camp starting just two weeks before the team's season opener against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks at Sovereign Center on February 26, the Express coaching staff has the task of promptly trimming the roster down to 21 active players, with nine players on reserve.

The Quarterback Situation: One of the biggest storylines going into camp this year is the quarterback situation. With longtime Rob Flowers now in retirement and Dan Kelly healing from shoulder surgery, the Express are working to find a new starting quarterback for the team.

Four players will enter camp with an eye on the starting role. Belhaven's Andrew Carcich, Kutztown's Shane Martin, Fairleigh-Dickinson's Bill Winters and Northwestern's Chris Malleo will compete for the job.

"This pre-season camp is going to be extremely competitive at all positions," said Chris Thompson, head coach of the Reading Express. "We feel that we have a great group of guys coming into camp, and I'm personally excited to see which guys step up, not only at the QB position, but at every position."

The Roster: The 2011 Reading Express pre-season roster touts several players with NCAA Division I experience, as well as players from top FCS schools. The roster is balanced with players from area colleges and universities, maintaining the local flavor that has always made the Reading Express popular.
