Storm Open at Home vs. the Win Starved Outlaws

April 20, 2007 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) will look to remain undefeated this Saturday at the "Storm Shelter" as the Storm entertain the winless Billings Outlaws (0-3) at 7:05pm at the Sioux Falls Arena. During Week 2, Sioux Falls and Billings met in a game that was a showdown between defending league champions as Billings won the National Indoor Football League Championship (NIFL) last season. The game ended on an Adam Hicks field goal in overtime. Billings nearly ended the Storm's astounding consecutive win streak, but it was the Storm that came out on top for the 22nd time in a row. The game can be heard LIVE on 1230 AM KWSN or by logging on to www.siouxfallsstorm.com and clicking on "Listen LIVE."

The Storm displayed once again, last week, why they are the back-to-back defending champions of the UIF. Sioux Falls dominated the undefeated Omaha Beef in all three facets of the game last Saturday night. After allowing only 66 points in the first three games, Omaha gave up 61 points to the Storm's "lightning strike offense." Terrance Bryant was 12 of 19 passing for 215 yards and threw an impressive 7 touchdown passes, one short of his career high. Bryant claimed the UIF Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Running back Marquis Smith racked up 54 yards rushing and added a score and wide receivers James Terry and Allen Burrell both hauled in 3 touchdown receptions each. Burrell's 3 touchdown catches were a career high. The Storm enters this game ranked #2 in both total offense and passing offense in the UIF.

Omaha quarterback James McNear was battered and bruised by the front-three of the Storm all night last Saturday. Failing to score a single point in the second half, the Storm prevented Omaha from ever establishing any type of rhythm on offense. The Storm totaled three sacks and five tackles for loss in the game. Nate Fluit currently has 6.5 sacks and is on pace to break the UIF single season sack record of 15.5, which is also held by Fluit. Justin Landis, Trice Crump, and Mark Blackburn were all forces on defense finishing the game with seven total tackles each. The Storm only trails the Beef in rushing yards allowed and leads the UIF in sacks with 11.

Billings quarterback Chris Dixon has led the Outlaws to the #3 ranked passing offense in the UIF as they are putting up 166.3 yards per game. Dixon accounted for all 7 touchdowns vs. the Storm in their last meeting. Dixon leads the team in rushing with 85 yards on the season. Jason Quinn has been Dixon's go-to guy through the air thus far as he has hauled in 15 receptions for 182 yards and 7 touchdowns. Quinn has been averaging a touchdown every 2 touches. Quinn is currently the league leader in touchdown receptions.

Billings has struggled against the run thus far allowing the 3rd most rushing yards per game in the UIF. The Billings defense is lead by defensive end Eugene Phillips. Phillips led the NIFL in sacks last year with 14 ½. He has gotten to the quarterback twice this season and earned UIF Defensive Player of the Week honors in week 1 vs. Colorado.
