Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (1-3) return home this Saturday night when they host the Sioux City Bandits (0-3) at Roberts Stadium. Saturday night will be the first ever meeting between the two teams here in Evansville and only the second meeting ever between the two teams. The BlueCats and Bandits previously met in a 2005 match-up in Sioux City, Iowa.

The BlueCats are pleased to announce a very special partnership with the American Red Cross at Saturday night's game. For every ticket purchased at the gate for Saturday's game against Sioux City, the BlueCats will be donating $1 to the American Red Cross as part of their Hometown Heroes program.

Last Saturday night the BlueCats lost on the road to the Rock River Raptors 67-28. Kick returner Richard Johnson earned UIF Special Teams Player of the Week honors this week for the second week in a row, with his second kickoff return touchdown in as many games. He returned a kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown against the Raptors and another for 57 yards two weeks ago against Lexington. The 57-yard kickoff return is a new BlueCats team record. Also finding the endzone last week for the BlueCats was Odest Shannon who returned a kickoff of his own for a touchdown. Running back Ray Kirkley scored his 4th touchdown of the season and AJ Bryant caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Haven Mosley.

The BlueCats currently lead the league in rushing offense averaging 93.2 yards per game as a team. Running back Ray Kirkley ranks 3rd in the league overall with 217 yards rushing. The BlueCats lead the league with 5 kickoff return touchdowns in the first 4 weeks of the season with 2 by Richard Johnson, 2 by Odest Shannon, and one coming from Deion Holts. No other team in the UIF has more than one kickoff return touchdown entering Week 5.

The Gus Doerner Charity football toss returns this week. Before the game and during the first half, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at halftime. Every football that lands in the BlueCats barrel at halftime will win a prize! All proceeds for the charity football toss will go to the nightly charity. Saturday's charity is the Boom Squad, Inc.

Kickoff on Saturday will be at 7:05pm. The gates at Roberts Stadium will open at 6pm. The BlueCats invite fans to show up early and tailgate with your fellow fans. The tailgate weather forecast for Saturday afternoon is fabulous with clear skies and temperatures in the mid to low 70's. The halftime entertainment for Saturday's game will feature the Boom Squad!
